DIRAC is the world’s most comprehensive database on radiotherapy resources. It comprises current and historical global data on radiotherapy centers, teletherapy machines, brachytherapy units, treatment planning systems, computed tomography systems and simulators. DIRAC contains information on radiotherapy infrastructure in 141 countries.
The IAEA has collected data on radiotherapy facilities since 1959. The online DIRAC database is continuously updated with information provided voluntarily by organizations, radiotherapy centers and other institutions around the world. Data shared to be included in DIRAC undergoes a process of review and verification to detect whether there are any inconsistencies and to ensure it is complete.
DIRAC is a powerful tool that can be used for different types of analyses: for assessment of existing infrastructure in radiotherapy, planning of new radiation oncology centers and for extraction of performance and quality indicators related to radiotherapy services. Such analyses can support activities in advocating for equity in access to cancer treatment, investing in health care infrastructure, benchmarking of radiotherapy resources and research by academia. Professionals worldwide rely on DIRAC and request information every day.
With the new web interface and visual features, users can view and upload information on individual radiotherapy centers and also data summaries for countries, regions and for the entire world. While the content is the same, the new DIRAC website is more detailed and collaborative in terms of data analysis and interactive maps
