QaMPS Celebrates International Day of Medical Physics 2021




The Qatar Medical Physics Society (QamPS) collaborated with Middle East Federation for the Organization of Medical Physics (MEFOMP) in the celebration of  the International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) 2021, with honored guests namely:  Dr. Virginia Tsapaki, from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); Dr. Meshari Al-Naemi, Vice President of MEFOMP and  President of Kuwait Medical Physics Society; - Dr. Ahmad Omar, Chairman of Clinical Imaging Department, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC); Dr. Noora Al Hammadi, Director of the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research, HMC; and Dr. Mohammad Alhajjaj from Ministry of Public Health.  QaMPS members and a number of medical professional staff from Hamad Medical Corporation also joined the celebration. 

Dr Huda al Naemi, QaMPS and MEFOMP President started the celebration by welcoming and congratulating all medical physicists for this year's celebration. This was followed by presentation from Dr Hassan Kharita about the MEFOMP achievement during last year and a presentation from Dr. Rabiah Hammouda about the history of Medical Physics Science and Career.

Dr. Huda, QaMPS President announced this year's winner of QaMPS Physicist of the Year to Dr. Ioannis Tsalafoutas.  A newly established award, the Scientific Publication Award was also given to Dr. Antar Mohd Aly.   

A friendly Q&A portion among the Medical Physicists followed to describe the role of Medical Physicist in the hospital and how to communicate this role to the public, which is the theme of the IDMP celebration for this year.  Each answer was awarded with a small gift as a recognition for their participation.

By the end of the celebration, IDMP 2021 cake cutting was done.
 
All COVID-19 precautions was followed during the celebration.
